Trump's £1 Billion Crypto Windfall Amidst Market Downturn
Donald Trump reportedly amassed over £1 billion from various cryptocurrency ventures last year, according to his 2025 financial disclosure. This substantial influx of wealth positions his crypto dealings as one of his most lucrative business endeavours to date. Notably, this financial success occurred while the broader cryptocurrency market experienced a significant slump, with asset prices plummeting and many businesses facing considerable challenges. Bitcoin, for instance, has seen its value halve from its peak just last autumn.

The disclosure, released by the Office of Government Ethics, details several key income streams. A significant portion, £635 million, originated from royalties from his personalised ‘memecoin’ business. This venture, which launched its self-named digital currency shortly before his return to the presidency, proved to be immensely profitable.

Furthermore, Trump reportedly gained more than £500 million from token sales linked to World Liberty Financial. This cryptocurrency firm, in which Trump and his family maintain a stake, has attracted scrutiny due to potential conflicts of interest, particularly as it seeks regulatory approval in the U.S.

The disclosure also shed light on Trump's extensive cryptocurrency holdings. Under DT Marks Defi LLC, an entity affiliated with the Trump Organization and holding a stake in World Liberty, his assets included up to £250,000 in USD, up to £15,000 in USDC stablecoin, and more than £50 million each in Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC). An additional £6 million was held across various other cryptocurrencies.

Separate holdings were also revealed through CIC Digital LLC, another Trump Organization-affiliated entity and a key owner of his memecoin business. These included over £50 million in Bitcoin, £25 million in Ethereum, and £25 million in USDC. The filings also indicated an equity stake in Coreweave, a Bitcoin miner that has diversified into artificial intelligence, and another stake in a “stablecoin holdco” under DT Marks SC LLC. This latter business generated over £196 million in revenue last year, partly linked to an investment from Abu Dhabi Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

White House spokespersons have yet to comment on these financial revelations. Assessing wealth disclosed in government reports can be complex due to the inherent wide valuation ranges provided. The disclosures also included numerous mentions of purchases and sales of Coinbase Class A stock (COIN) through various investment accounts managed by the President. The exact amounts involved are difficult to ascertain precisely due to the broad ranges reported.

These disclosures highlight President Trump's aggressive pursuit of pro-crypto policies during his administration, coinciding with his substantial financial gains from the sector. This has occurred despite the challenging market conditions faced by the wider crypto industry, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest as he championed a sector that directly contributed to his personal wealth.
