The stablecoin issuer will deploy its dedicated tokenisation platform, Hadron, to facilitate the issuance and management of these tokenised real estate assets for institutional investors within the Kingdom. This expansion marks a pivotal moment for Tether, aligning with Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 programme, which aims to modernise and diversify its economy through technological advancement.
To ensure a robust and compliant operating model, Tether has partnered with two key Saudi entities: First Data, which will serve as the issuer and market operator, and fintech firm BKN301, responsible for integrating the platform with local banking and compliance systems. This collaborative approach underscores Tether's commitment to adhering to local regulations while leveraging regional expertise.
Launched in 2024, the Hadron platform was developed to streamline the complex process of asset tokenisation. This initiative represents Tether's broader strategy to diversify beyond its core stablecoin offerings and capitalise on the rapid growth of blockchain applications in finance. The company is already a significant player in this space, notably issuing XAUT, the largest tokenised gold offering, valued at £2.6 billion.
Tokenisation is gaining increasing traction among banks and asset managers worldwide. The technology allows traditional assets, including money market funds, private credit, and equities, to be represented on blockchain networks. Proponents argue that tokenisation can significantly enhance settlement efficiency, broaden investor access, and improve overall capital efficiency within financial markets. Industry giant Citi has projected the tokenised securities market could reach a staggering £5.5 trillion by 2030.
Saudi Arabia is actively exploring tokenisation as a cornerstone of its Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy. The Kingdom's forward-thinking approach includes deploying enterprise blockchain across critical sectors such as financial services, government, and supply chain management. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, commented on the expansion, stating, “With Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia stands out as an ideal market for demonstrating the impact of platforms like Hadron by Tether.” This initiative positions Tether at the forefront of financial innovation in one of the world's most dynamic emerging markets.
